7th Annual General Meeting & Dinner
This year’s annual general meeting and dinner were successfully held on April 24th. A special tribute to the 1970 graduates marked the 40th years after their graduation in Bishop Hall Jubilee School. There was a total of eighty participants gathered together, enjoying a warm and joyous evening. With her accompanying parent, we had the youngest ever Jubilean Mandy Lam joined with us this year. Through the generosity of our attending alumni, we were able to raise a total of $720 for donations to continue our child sponsorship commitment in Canada World Vision, and educational assistance to needy students in our mother school. The video clips and photos are now posted on our website.
We do hope to see more of you to keep the bonding among us member alumni, our former teachers and our mother school by participating actively in our future events.
New Version of Members’ directory
Thanks for the hard work of the EXCO members, particularly Rosita Ho, Stella Tam and Lam Se Nam, the new version of members’ directory was able to release at this year’s AGM. All subscribed members are entitled to receive one copy. If you missed the chance of attending this year’s annual dinner and wish to receive this beautifully printed directory, please contact our data base administrator Rosita Ho email: rositacamacho@yahoo.ca , or call 416-616 6191.
Summer BBQ at Heydenshore Park
This park is located at the beautiful beach in Whitby, just less than 30 minutes’ drive from Toronto. For the past two years, we had successfully organized similar functions at this site, with near-professional chefs preparing marinated meats and sashimi, and fun-filled games and contests. There is a trail for hiking and biking/rollerblading nearby. This is the last chance of spending a summer week-end with your family and friends. We will try our best to arrange car-pooling. All you need now is to fill in the following form and return to us with whatever is necessary. See you there.

BHJS 1969 graduates’ 40th year reunion in Hong Kong In March 2009, thanks to 'the tribute to 1969 graduates' at the AGM of BHJS Canada Alumni, we kicked off the first part of the celebration to our 40th anniversary here in Toronto. Surely you remembered we had a surprisingly great turn out by local long lost friends, as well as friends from different parts of US and HK. Then with that seed in the heart of the HK delegate, Ms Anita Pak, she went home and helped form a big planning committee. In November last year, we did it again, with an even bigger bash at the school in Hong Kong. It was with gratitude and pleasure when I attempted to write about this reunion event in HK. It took me a good month and a half to settle down after the trip. I was so happy to have been there in person, and that everything worked out so well. With exception from the Coronation on Speech Day, due to time constraint, my intention was to go on every outing the committee had planned for us because that would be the only way to appreciate their effort. Where to go and what to do were not that important. It was the company and the fun I wanted, and I was not disappointed.

MY FIRST HIKING EXPERIENCE WITH THE TORONTO BHJS-ERS
Date: Sep 4 Just received email from May Ho about the Oct 4 hiking:
Date: Oct 4 9:30 am: Just checked everything before I leave home. Have my ear muff and gloves with me. The weather is getting a bit warm, so I’m not wearing my winter clothing, just a long-sleeve sweater. 9:45 am: Just arrived at the entrance to the park. Not too sure where we’re supposed to meet. I’ll try the first parking lot on the right side. 9:50 am: Not the right place. I’m moving out again … 9:55 am: There’s another parking space on the left side. There’s a group of people waiting. I’m driving in… 10:05 am: No familiar faces. Must be the wrong place. I’m going to phone Christina…. 10:07 am: Just learned from her that everyone except me has arrived at the meeting place and has been waiting for me. I still don’t know exactly where to meet them but I’m driving again… Wait, someone is approaching me… 10:10 am: It turns out that Tang Yiu-Ming (’64) has been waiting for the last half hour. He also thought this is our meeting place. We’re still not sure where to meet, but decide to take our cars and continue driving north. 10:15 am: We’ve come to the parking lot near where the horses are stationed, but there’s no one in sight. Yiu-Ming phones Christina again. We’re told that Chi-Chiu may be driving to meet us if we turn back. 10:18 am: We finally spot Chi-Chiu. He turns around and we follow his car. The parking lot where we’re supposed to meet is on the right side of the road. Everyone cheers. We’re almost twenty minutes late and I apologize for being late. Anyway, I’m forgiven and everyone is happy and we take a group photo, with Christie (May’s daughter) taking the picture.
From left:
10:30 am: So we begin our hiking. The classmates are very solicitous. They give me bottled water and make sure I’m warm enough for the walk, as the early morning weather is still a bit on the cool side. We walk in groups. In fact, I’m with the last bunch including Yiu-Ming, Alice, Clement and Albert. 10:45 am: It’s a great morning for walking – with lots of fresh air. The surrounding is beautiful, and we have very good company. I let Yiu-Ming, Clement and Albert do most of the talking. They’re more or less retired and enjoy outdoor life. 10:55 am: The ladies are way behind, so we have to stop from time to time and wait for them to catch up. There are other fellow hikers besides us. There are also many who ride bicycles. Occasionally, we hear bicyclists shouting: “Be careful!” Several times some bicyclists yell at us rudely: “Keep to the right, you guys! Jesus! Don’t you know you should walk only on the right side?” We try our best to remember walking on the right side afterwards. (I learned more about walking on the “right” side later.) 11:05 am: We pass the only public restroom on the road. On the outside it looks very clean. 11:10 am: Hm! The place looks familiar! I see now that on several occasions, I’ve parked my car near this area for my afternoon sunbathing. We have indeed come to the end of the road. Looking further, I can see the driveway leading to Thorncliffe Park Drive where I live. Some of us walk around the park. Some take pictures. Someone mentions maybe we should all visit my apartment. I’m wise enough not to answer… Here are some photos:
The tall white building is rented to people like us. I believe this is the one at 65 Thorncliffe.
We’re discussing whether we should be heading back.
Beautiful ladies all smiling. 11:25 am: We’ve come to a shelter. Christina says: “Gee! It’s a nice shelter. Perhaps another time we can have barbeques here. We won’t be afraid of rain then.” Someone mentions something about carrying food and heavy stuff, and the girls all say: “The men will take care of that!”
We’ll need a permit for the shelter. (Note: photo taken afterwards.)
It’s really a nice shelter for BBQs. (Note: photo afterwards.) 11:35 am: More rude shouting from bicyclists because we’re on the “wrong” side of the road. 11:45 am: Somehow we get to the topic of Ms Ng Tsui-King. I ask if anyone knows how she’s doing since last year. Kwok-Ying mentions that Ms Ng was travelling with some BHJS-ers in China last year. She wasn’t feeling well at one of the outings. The next day she flew back to the States and was staying at her son’s home. We’re all concerned and hope Ms Ng is feeling better now. 11: 55 am: I mention I have arthritis pain nowadays. Rosita says: “Try glucosamine.” Another says: “You can buy them cheap at Costco.” 12:05 noon: We’re finally back to where we started earlier. Everyone is happy. Everyone says how great I am at walking, that I can walk much faster than they without being tired. (That’s what you think!) More photos are taken before we leave for lunch.
A departing photo before we get into our cars and head for our restaurant.
Date: Oct 8 For the last few days, my muscles have been aching. Perhaps too much walking for me on Oct 4.
Date: Oct 16 My elder brother and I revisit E.T. Seton Park. Here’s what we discover:
Bicyclists should defer to pedestrians, not the other way around. But I won’t argue with them!
